Springing

Each day now it's lovely to see even more signs of Spring.

Willow and magnolia - sounds like southern states Christian names!

Horning

A lovely visit today to friends, Clayton and Clare and their super dog, Tilly at King Line Cottages on the Norfolk Broads.

This pretty view from their window...

...and when Clay opens the window, ducks, heron and seagulls arrive for the bread he throws out for them.

They kindly fed us too - Sunday roast at The Ferry Inn, Horning - Cheers, me dears!!

By the River Wensum - 2.

A couple of days ago we set off to find another part of the river Wensum.

We think this small weir is part of that river and is in the Bilaugh area...

We were unsuccessful at Mill Street in spite of it being clearly shown on maps of the area but there was a pretty array of spring flowers...

Couldn't miss the Wensum at Lyng as the road crossed it.  There was just room to park the car and get some shots of the river from both sides of the bridge...

A little stroll for Ron.

I wish the UK would adopt the French way of signing rivers that roads cross..But at least this confirms it is the Wensum!

The road at Lenwade also crosses the Wensum, but it was a busier road with roadworks close to the bridge - so no photos - you'll just have to take my word for it !!

Didn’t it rain!

We hadn’t realised just how much rain we’d had in the last 24 hours until we saw the puddle - pond? - at the bottom of the garden this afternoon…

We have also had snow, hail and a few spells of dry, sunny weather.

The ditch at the front of the property is nearly full - and more rain is forecast over the next few days!

There are a lot of ditches and streams in the area so the outlook is somewhat worrying!!

After the lovely spring-like days in February, it seems winter has returned with a vengeance - days I call a Scorpion Winter...one with a sting in its tail !!

p.s.  Dry and windy overnight and the following day so all water levels dropped a little.

Brisley Cinema

Once a month Brisley Village Hall is transformed into a cinema with rows of comfortable seats and a newly-installed improved projector set into the ceiling and excellent sound system.

On Friday afternoon we watched the showing of Bohemian Rhapsody.  It was also showed in the evening.

The music was brilliant, the characterisation good - although at one point half-way through I thought I was watching Mick Jagger!  The music was the biggest star though and there were times in between when the film seemed to fall a bit flat.

Overall though we enjoyed the experience.

By the River Wensum - 1.

A bright, dry but windy morning with rain forecast by midday so we took the opportunity this morning to go for a short drive in an attempt to find the River Wensum.  Previously we had failed to find the source which, apparently, is not far from where we live but not signposted - in the area of Horningtoft, Whissonett and Colkirk.  However, with instructions from our neighbour we set off towards Fakenham, just 6 miles away, where we were told there are two places by the river.

Our first attempt was abortive and left us negotiating narrow, old, roads in the town centre.

The second was eventually successful, after another false start, and we found the road, named Goggs Mill Road.  A short way along it, over a bridge to a small car park and open, grassy area on the right while the road bore left and continued back towards the town centre. Footpaths and cycle paths led off the area.

The place itself seemed to have no name but was home to ducks, geese - and many chickens and cockerels which were sheltering under hedges. It was a bit more sheltered here anyway so, I donned a headscarf (to protect from TN and, this past day or so, arthritis in the joint of upper and lower jaw on the same side) and took some snaps…

On the way back, sheep and goats mixed happily in a field…

…and, at home,   hyacinths have suddenly bloomed this past couple of days.

A pleasant morning with a change of scene and a breath of air and home before the rain arrived at 12.15.!

I have optimistically titled this No. 1 as we hope to discover other parts of the Wensum as it meanders through this part of Norfolk on its way to Norwich. Incidentally, Wensum comes from the old English word for winding and it certainly does that.

A taste of France

Wednesday, 27th February and we enjoyed a French Cuisine Evening at The Brisley Bell with Peter and Linda.

Ron decided on a selfie...

Without warning, the battery on my camera than started to die...so the following photos became a bit blurry...

I'll have to do another some time for my Facebook profile!
Oh well - not sharp enough for Facebook but not too bad here and a flavour of the evening!

p.s. to February 2019

The next day, grey clouds returned although it brightened a bit mid-afternoon.

In the country...

A colourful corner leading to a byway...

Of course this would have been even more colourful with a blue-sky background!  Oh well, at least it was dry...No "February fill-dyke" this year!!
